Farmworker Awareness Week

National Farmworker Awareness Week (NFAW) is a week of action for students and community members to raise awareness about farmworker issues on our campuses and in our communities. In 2023 we celebrate National Farmworker Awareness Week to raise awareness about farmworker conditions and to honor their important contributions.

We present the following events at University of Idaho:

U of I Library Display (First Floor)

Dates: Wednesday, March 22 to Monday, April 3

Farmworker Awareness Week (FAW) Day of Service

Dates: Thursday, March 23 to Monday, March 27

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is teaming up with the Department of Student Involvement and College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) for a Day of Service in honor of this year’s FAW. This year’s service project focuses on collecting donations and raising awareness of the health concerns that farmworkers face as part of their jobs, including sun and pesticide exposure. To help mitigate these concerns, donation items being collected include long sleeve shirts, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and more. Donations collected will be distributed to locations in Idaho and Washington. For more information connect directly with OMA at oma@ngskmc-eis.net.

Long Sleeve Shirt, Glove, and Hat Drive

Dates: Saturday, March 25 to Friday, March 31

Collected shirts, gloves and hats will be donated to help Idaho farmworkers protect themselves against the dangers of sun and pesticide exposure.

On-campus Drop-off Locations: CAMP (Native American Migrant Education Center), Department of Student Involvement (ISUB 302), Office of Multicultural Affairs — Student Diversity Center (TLC 229), Student Support Services (ISUB 306), U of I Athletics (Kibbie Dome, 2nd Floor), U of I Library, VandalStore, Women’s Center (Mem Gym 109)

FAW Keynote Speaker: Miguel Almeida

Time | Date | Location: 5:30pm | Tuesday, March 28 | ISUB, Clearwater-Whitewater rooms

Miguel Angel Almeida is a Mexican American artist and muralist living in Boise, Idaho. He creates work in both traditional and digital mediums. Miguel’s work is a reflection of his identity of growing up as a first generation Mexican American. His art style is a combination of colors inspired by Mexican folk art and heavy linework to create a graphic style. Almeida’s color palette is largely influenced by the pueblos and towns that he grew up seeing in Mexico when visiting his Abuelitos in Zacatecas.

Voces Del CAMPo | Voices From the Field
